Jagdeep Dhanoa started his career in the Merchant Navy in the year 1974. After 10 years at sea, he started working as Port Captain and Marine Surveyor with SGS in Houston, Texas.

In November 1985, he moved to Long Beach, California, to work in the Oil Trading and Tanker Chartering business. From 1988 to 1994 he worked for several International Oil Trading Organisations in Singapore, trading Petroleum Products in the Asia pacific. In January 1995, he joined Glencore International as Director – Trading (Middle East, India & East Africa). During his stint with Glencore, he worked out of Singapore, Mumbai and Dubai. In 2002, he became CEO and 20% shareholder of Petroplus International Marketing FZCO, Dubai. He was in charge of trading all products and crude oil East of Suez for the European refiner Petroplus International. In Dec 2004, he amicably parted ways with Petroplus and started his own group of companies under the Tropicana umbrella. The key companies are Tropicana Trading DMCC, Tropicana Logistics Pvt. Ltd, Tropicana Leisure Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. and Tropicana Houseboats Pvt. Ltd.
